    Overview

A flat brass die cannot follow a curved or textured surface. A silicone pad between the die and the workpiece spreads pressure evenly, which is how foil is applied to leather grain, soft-touch laminate, moulded plastic and round parts.

    Hardness selects the surface

Softer pads (Shore A 40) wrap around curvature; harder pads (Shore A 70) keep edge sharpness on nearly flat work. Cut sheets to your platen size and replace when the surface glazes. Foil selection for these substrates is covered in the adhesion troubleshooting guide.
